1 Verse. 1 Story. 1 Lesson.

When the loss is actually the biggest win

Bismillah.

📖 1 Verse

“As for the ship, it belonged to some poor people, working at sea. So I intended to damage it, for there was a ˹tyrant˺ king ahead of them who seizes every ˹good˺ ship by force.”
(Surah Al-Kahf 18:79)

📚 1 Story

They were already drowning in poverty.
A group of poor fishermen — barely surviving — had one thing left that brought hope and income: a ship.

It wasn’t luxurious.
It wasn’t powerful.
But it floated.
It worked.
It kept them alive.

Then suddenly, a stranger boards their boat. Damages it.
Scratches it, dents it — renders it dysfunctional.

They don’t understand.
Why destroy our last lifeline?
Why worsen the already unbearable?

From their eyes, it looked like a cruel betrayal by fate.
But from Allah’s view, it was divine mercy in disguise.

Not far from their path, a tyrant king was waiting — seizing every functional ship for his navy.
If that vessel had stayed intact, it would’ve been gone forever.
Their poverty would’ve turned into permanent ruin.

So instead of losing everything, they lost just enough.
They lost a part to be protected from the whole being taken.
They lost a moment, so they wouldn’t lose their future.

They thought they were cursed.
But they had just been saved.

💡 1 Lesson

Your broken ship may not make sense now.
But someday — when the full map is revealed —
You’ll realize…

That wreck wasn’t your ruin.
It was your rescue.

That one closed door you never got over…
It may have saved your deen, your dignity, your destination.

1 Question for You

What "broken ship" are you still grieving —
that Allah may have used to save you from a tyrant king?

🤲 Dhikr of the Week

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma ajurni fi musibati, wakhluf li khayran minha.
“We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. O Allah! Compensate me in my affliction, recompense my loss, and give me something better in exchange for it.”

✨ Virtue:

When a person suffers from a calamity and utters this, Allah surely compensates them with reward and a better substitute.
